WOMEN GENDER & THE BOSSES - Gender Demands

Group Study
Divide your group into three to look at documents in the following areas:

  • Maternity leave
  • Child care
  • All other demands including around sexual harassment
  1. In your small groups (or by yourself) make a timeline of the key moments in the struggle you are reading about (maternity, child care etc).
  2. Present you timeline to the rest of the members of your group, explaining what happened.
  3. As a group, make a single timeline incorporating all three of the timelines you have produced.
  4. Discuss periods where you find activity over more than one demand and analyse the links between the demands and how they were pursued.

As an individual exercise
Read the documents and make one timeline for each of the gender demands:

  • Maternity leave
  • Sexual harassment
  • Child care
  1. Make a single timeline incorporating all three of the timelines you have produced.
  2. Add on the other demands you find recorded in the documents
  3. Identify periods of intense activity around these demands and discuss with other activists what else was going on during those times. Does gender activity accompany periods of generally raised activity or does it happen when everything else is quiet?
