BEHIND THE LABEL

“Behind the label” has been an initiative of the Labour Research Service, the Programme for Land and Agrarian Studies(PLAAS) and the Women on Farms Project. This publication documents the experiences of the social conditions on these wine farms as seen through the eyes of the workers. What makes this publication unique is the fact that the farms workers themselves were involved in every step of the research process. They defined the criteria for the audit, collected the information and were involved in the analysis of the data. It has given workers the tolls to assess their own conditions and to make their voices heard. This publication thus debunks the myth that only experts can conduct research into the lives of ordinary people.
